Story
In a forgotten settlement under a hill in Vizianagaram, 1800 people live without any government identity. Peddi (Ram Charan), a jaggery factory laborer and talented local cricketer, suffers a humiliating defeat and switches to wrestling under guru Gournayudu (Shivrajkumar), hoping to bring recognition to his village. Parallelly, activist Appalasuri (Jagapathi Babu) fights tirelessly for a railway stop in their area. After a strong run, Peddi makes a shocking decision that changes everything. What follows is an inspiring tale of grit, sacrifice, and the struggle for identity—ultimately leading to their settlement being officially named Appalavalasa.

Analysis
The biggest challenge in sports dramas is the predictable climax—everyone knows the hero will win. The success depends on how engagingly and convincingly the director tells the story. Director Buchibabu succeeds in making Peddi more than just a sports film. He smartly blends village struggles, self-respect, caste discrimination, and a cross-over athlete journey into the wrestling narrative. While the attempt is commendable, balancing all these elements feels slightly uneven.
First Half: Excellent. It follows Peddi (Ram Charan), a local cricketer and jaggery factory worker, his love story, village fights, and his decision to switch to wrestling. Highlight scenes and songs (Chikiri Chikiri, Ray Ray) are enjoyable.
Second Half: Slows down. Though Peddi’s wrestling journey is inspiring, it becomes predictable. The transition to an international level feels rushed and unconvincing. The 1990s setting also clashes with the stylish fights and modern costumes. Overall, Peddi is an ambitious sports drama with strong emotions and a powerful message about identity, but it loses pace in the second half.

Performance
Ram Charan is the major highlight of Peddi. He delivers a powerhouse performance—stylish and swaggy as a cricketer and intense as a wrestler. His Delhi episodes are outstanding and National Award-worthy. No other Telugu hero might have pulled off those scenes.
Jagapathi Babu shines as Appalasuri, Shivrajkumar is powerful as Gournayudu, and Boman Irani does well in a key role. Janhvi Kapoor’s role is limited and lacks depth. Buchibabu’s writing has some powerful dialogues on sports, sacrifice, and self-respect. However, as a director, he shows signs of inexperience with a few logical gaps and a slightly uneven second half. Technically, the film is impressive—Ratnavelu’s visuals are brilliant, A.R. Rahman’s music is good, though editing could have been tighter. Overall, Ram Charan’s stellar act carries this ambitious sports drama.
